Jonshan Safari
Book a night

Two ways to sleep in the Thar.

Same jeep, same camels, same fire, same dinner. The only choice inside the night is what is over your head when you fall asleep.

from ₹2500 per person, per night.
Either way.

Candlelit dinner and a bonfire on the dune at dusk

Under open sky

A bed made up on the sand, no canvas over it. Cold after midnight, and the reason people book this rather than a hotel.

  • Bedding, quilts and pillows laid out on the dune
  • Bonfire, with folk music and dance beside it
  • Dinner and morning tea
  • Camel ride out to the sunset point
  • Pickup and drop from Jaisalmer

from ₹2500 per person, per night

Ask about open air
A Swiss tent with a shaded verandah and red drapes

In a tent

A private tent at the camp with a proper bed, a door that shuts and a washroom of your own. Warmer, and easier with children.

  • A private tent with a proper bed
  • Attached washroom with running water
  • Bonfire, with folk music and dance beside it
  • Dinner and breakfast
  • Camel ride out to the sunset point
  • Pickup and drop from Jaisalmer

from ₹2500 per person, per night

Ask about a tent

What is in both, and where they part.

Most of the night does not change. This is the short list of what does, so the choice takes a minute rather than an evening.

In both, either way

  • Pickup and drop from Jaisalmer
  • Camel ride out to the sunset point
  • Bonfire, with folk music and dance beside it
  • Dinner cooked at the camp
The differences between open-air and tented camping
Under open sky In a tent
Your bed Under open sky Quilts and pillows laid out on the sand, with nothing over them. In a tent A proper bed inside a private tent, with a door that shuts.
Washroom Under open sky The camp washrooms, a short walk from where you sleep. In a tent Attached to your tent, with running water.
The morning Under open sky Tea at sunrise, out where you slept. In a tent Breakfast at the camp.
After dark Under open sky Cold after midnight, and open on every side. In a tent Canvas over you and somewhere to put your bag down.
Pick this if Under open sky The stars are the reason you are coming, and the cold does not put you off. In a tent You want a door and a proper bed, or you are travelling with children.

What the price does not cover.

So nothing at the camp comes as a surprise.

  • Jeep dune bashing, if you want it
  • Anything you drink beyond tea and water
  • Camera and drone fees at the dunes

The jeep run is the only one of these anyone books in advance. Ask for it when you message and it gets added to the evening.

How the price works.

One figure, per person, per night.
It is the same whichever bed you pick, and it is a starting price rather than a quote. Send your date and how many of you there are and we will confirm what yours comes to.
Nothing is paid up front.
You get the price and what it already covers before any money changes hands.
Children, groups and anything else.
Travelling with small children, in a large group, or with someone who would struggle on a camel? Say so when you message and the evening is arranged around it.

Tell us your date.

Message us with the night you want and how many of you there are. We will come back with what is free and what it costs, before you pay anything.
